Why we are excited about the 2017 Open edX Conference

10 Reasons Why We’re Excited About Open edX Con 2017

The largest Open edX event in the world is just around the corner. On May 24-25, Madrid will play host to the 2017 Open edX Conference, a conference designed for members of the global Open edX community to share, learn, and celebrate the Open edX platform.

Attendees will discuss innovative uses of Open edX across higher education, training, and lifelong learning, as well as methods for operating, extending, and enhancing the Open edX platform.

Here are 10 reasons why we’re so excited for this year’s big event:

1. A rich lineup of keynotes and Open edX thought leaders

Anant Agarwal (CEO and Founder of edX), Nick van Dam (Global Chief Learning Officer at McKinsey), and many others are lined up to speak about the future of Open edX. Need some inspiration, or curious about what’s on the horizon with online training? You’ll want to join these talks, or stream all the sessions live.

2. The Appsembler team will be out in full force

This year, we are proud to support Open edX as keystone sponsors. You can stop by our booth in the sponsor section, meet our industry experts, learn more about our products, and of course — grab some free Appsembler swag!

3. Madrid is the host city

Last year, Open edX Con ‘16 was hosted at Stanford University, where we also had a presence. This year, it’s in Madrid, which means two really exciting things (among many others): jamon and churros! In all seriousness, we are thrilled for this year’s location because Appsembler is a globally distributed team, and the Open edX Con always serves as a big annual reunion for our team.

4. Demo Appsembler’s new Open edX SaaS platform

We will unveil Tahoe, our new all-in-one platform that makes it easier and simpler than ever to build a branded Open edX site and author course content. Be one of the first to see how Tahoe works by visiting the Appsembler booth in the sponsors area – you can also try it out yourself!

5. Learn about the latest Open edX innovations

Where else can you get a first look at the latest Open edX technologies and innovations (i.e. XBlocks, mobile apps, and more)? Where else can you learn first-hand new models and deployment scenarios that make Open edX the solution of choice for cutting-edge organizations? This is the place to learn and stay ahead of the curve.

6. Hear about the new Video XBlock

Appsembler CEO and Founder, Nate Aune, will lead a lightning talks session with Peter Koblyakov, Co-Founder of Raccoon Gang, about the new Video XBlock their teams have built that enables you to securely deliver video content to both your desktop and mobile learners.

7. Get feedback from the next generation of Open edX users

We are excited to tap into the wealth of knowledge, insight, and experiences from our users and you!

8. Learn how to achieve strategic business goals with Open edX

Appsembler’s VP of Customer Success, Harry Klein, will moderate a panel on innovations in corporate learning with participants from Microsoft, McKinsey Academy, and Applied Materials. These panelists will share their lessons learned and experiences using Open edX to improve revenue, cost savings, customer engagements, and other business goals.

9. In-depth tutorials and technical presentations

J’aime Ohm, iOS & Android developer, will speak about how she builds native iOS/Android mobile apps for Appsembler’s customers so that learners can have mobile access to courses hosted on their Open edX sites. Meanwhile, software developer Maxi Fernandez will give a tutorial about the theory and practice of implementing SSO and third-party authentication, and the advantages and disadvantages of OAuth and SAML.

10. Meet your next potential employer

Open edX Con is the place to find the brightest minds and visionaries of Open edX…and we’re always on the lookout for talent! Make sure to stop by and say hi – we’d love to learn more about you!

If you’re planning to attend the Conference and would like to schedule a 1:1 meeting with our team, feel free to fill out this brief form, and one of our team members will be in touch.

We look forward to seeing you there!
